Commanders’ Terry McLaurin's Streak in Jeopardy?

The Washington Commanders are riding high after a thrilling 38-33 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, improving to 2-1 on the season. Led by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, who set a new completion percentage record for a rookie, the Commanders offense clicked on all cylinders, scoring on every possession in the game. However, despite the team’s success, one key storyline emerging from Washington’s early season is the quiet production of star wide receiver Terry McLaurin.

McLaurin, who has been the Commanders' top target since entering the league in 2019, is off to one of the slowest starts of his career. Through three games, McLaurin has just 139 receiving yards on 12 receptions, averaging 46.3 yards per game. His performance in Week 3, which included a 27-yard game-sealing touchdown from Daniels, provided a glimpse of his playmaking ability, but the slow start could put his streak of 1,000-yard seasons at risk.

Since his sophomore year in 2020, McLaurin has recorded at least 1,000 receiving yards each season. If he continues at his current pace, McLaurin would finish the season with just 787.7 yards, well below his usual production and even short of his rookie season’s 919 yards.

The Commanders are preparing for their Week 4 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, a team that ranks in the middle of the pack defensively, allowing 200 receiving yards per game. While McLaurin will have plenty of opportunities to increase his yardage totals, he’ll need some breakout performances soon to keep his 1,000-yard streak alive.

With a long season ahead and a dynamic quarterback in Daniels leading the charge, McLaurin’s chances of bouncing back remain high, but for now, he faces the possibility of falling short of the 1,000-yard mark for the first time since his rookie campaign.
