His trial started Monday. On Thursday, a jury convicted Derrick of first-degree involuntary manslaughter, voluntary manslaughter, second-degree domestic assault and two counts of armed criminal action. He was found not guilty of endangering the welfare of a child.The charges were the result of a deadly double shooting that took place in November of 2022 on Boyd Lane. One of the victims, Lea’Johna Sanders, 22, the mother of Derrick’s baby, contacted 911 to report Derrick was abusing her and refusing to give her back her house keys. The victim also reported that Derrick had threatened to kill her, then multiple gun shots were heard.Sanders was found dead at the scene. Her grandmother, Laura Myers, 53, was transported to a local hospital where she died from her injuries.Derrick and Sanders’ child was present when the shooting occurred, but she wasn’t injured.Derrick will be scheduled on November 12. He remains in the Boone County jail pending his sentencing. </div></body>
