(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Chicago Board of Education did not take any steps to remove Chicago Public Schools (CPS) CEO Pedro Martinez at its meeting Thursday. However, it did vote to put a moratorium on school closures.

Some members of the public defended CEO Martinez during public comment.

“The mayor and CTU leadership want to fire you for doing your job. CTU leadership and their paid supporters chose to smear you because you're standing up for children and families in Chicago,” one supporter said at the meeting.

Others criticized school closures or consolidations, citing a list they say has been circulating.

Martinez called closure rumors a misinformation campaign, and the board unanimously voted for a three year moratorium.

Meanwhile, Board President Jianan refused to discuss terminating Martinez’ contract as the mayor had called for.

“We cannot and will not and won't discuss confidential or personnel matters publicly.”

Educating our children should be first priority, instead CTU cares only about their bottom line and pushing their radical agenda.
