A 38-year-old Palm Springs woman accused of lighting palm trees on fire was in custody Friday following her arrest.

The Palm Springs Police Department received a report shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday that a woman was setting the trees on fire near the Parker Hotel, according to a department statement.

Police said they received information from a witness who "maintained visual contact" with the woman and observed her allegedly start the fires before fleeing.

The witness' description led to the arrest Thursday night of Tiara Chrystal Wons, and she was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio, police said.

She could be charged with obstructing an officer, trespassing and multiple counts of arson, according to police.

Wons is currently being held in lieu of $10,000 bail and is scheduled to make an initial court appearance Wednesday at the Larson Justice Center in Indio, according to inmate records.
