Red Sox starting pitcher looks back on career with Boston heading into possible final start with team

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Nick Pivetta has his last start with Boston this season tonight, and possibly the last start with the team period. Pivetta talked with Alex Speier about what it meant to play in Fenway.

“I think the amount of growth that I’ve had in my career is a tribute to being able to have the Red Sox uniform on and to the people that the Red Sox organization has surrounded me with… Just to be able to put on the uniform and just go out and compete, and be given that opportunity to do that, and to be welcomed I think is very nice and a very great honor. I’m grateful for that.”

During his time with the Red Sox, Pivetta started 130 games, had a 37-40 record, a 4.31 ERA, and 712 strikeouts.

Pivetta has always been a hot and cold pitcher. His lows were embarrassing, and his highs were awesome. He would have games where he got blown up, and games where he would get through multiple innings with just strikeouts.

If this is the last start by Pivetta in a Sox uniform, here’s hoping it’s a great one.

Pivetta will make his start tonight against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway at 7:10pm EST.
