AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – Governor Maura Healey has ordered all U.S. American and Massachusetts flags to be lowered to half-staff on Friday.

The order was issued to honor Private Kwack Woo, a U.S. Army soldier who died in World War II being laid to rest at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Private Woo died in battle in Germany back in 1945. His remains weren’t recovered until years later and then he went unidentified for nearly 80 years.

His remains arrived at Bradley International Airport last week and his funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday. The order calls for the flags to be lowered to half-staff on all state buildings from sunrise until sunset on Friday, the date of interment.
