All this could <i> only mean one thing </i> : The Carolina Classic Fair returns to the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds starting Friday, Oct. 4 through Sunday, Oct. 13. <br><br><br><br> The event once known as <a class="Link" href="https://carolinaclassicfair.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/History.pdf" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank"> the Dixie Classic Fair </a> began as a wheat exhibition in Salem in 1882. <i> Fast forward, </i> the Winston-Salem City Council approved <a class="Link" href="https://www.wfmynews2.com/article/news/local/sons-of-confederacy-responds-to-dixie-classic-fair-name-change-carolina-nc/83-ca7304ba-c2dd-49ca-985c-0c11d74db9ef#:~:text=On%20Monday%2C%20the%20Winston%2DSalem,the%20%22Carolina%20Classic%20Fair.%22&amp;text=The%20push%20to%20change%20the,old%20south's%20slavery%20and%20segregation." rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank"> a name change </a> due to “Dixie” referring to slavery and segregation in the South. The change took effect in 2020. Today, it’s the second largest agricultural fair in NC and attracts ~325,000 visitors each year. <br><br> This year marks the fair’s 142nd annual celebration, so we want to prep you with everything you need to know before you go. <i> Ride with us </i> . <br></p><h3 id="hours-tickets-parking"> Hours, tickets, parking </h3><ul><li> During its 10-day run, gates open at 12 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. on Sunday. </li><li> Tickets + parking passes are available in person and online. <a class="Link" href="https://carolinaclassicfair.com/tickets/" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank"> Regular admission </a> costs $8 but there are specials throughout the fair’s run. <i> Pro tip: </i> Bring cash to avoid paying a $3 surcharge at the gate. </li><li><a class="Link" href="https://carolinaclassicfair.com/parking/" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank"> Parking </a> is available <i> on and off site </i> for $10 except on Saturday.
