The Last of Us Season 2 Trailer Reactions: Fans Brace Themselves for Emotional Rollercoaster

HBO has dropped the gripping first trailer for The Last of Us season 2 .

The 2025-bound follow-up to 2023’s hit post-apocalyptic drama shows off an older, wearier-looking Joel (Pedro Pascal) as he travels a ruined North America with teenager Ellie (Bella Ramsey). It also introduces us to Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), who has a big role to play.

In the video games on which the show is based, Abby is responsible for splitting up the pair. The Last of Us Part II , which released on PS4 in 2020, casts her as both hero and villain, even letting you play as her at points. As such, she’s a divisive character.

“Godspeed to the person playing Abby…” writes @Xtermenator217 under the YouTube trailer. “I hope Kaitlyn Dever is prepared for the amount of negativity she is going to get, not just from gamers who already hate Abby but a whole new audience of tv viewers,” adds @BeautilAliceShaw-k6y.

Twitter users, meanwhile, are bracing themselves for a season of heavy emotional toil. After all, where the first season of the show is based on the first game, The Last of Us Season 2 is based on the game’s sequel, which features death and despair in abundance. Hey, at least The Last of Us season 2 will be shorter than the first season .
