The majority of nursing homes in California, 80% according to the article, are owned by for-profit corporations. That care quality has decreased as more nursing homes are owned by for-profit corporations is not a surprise. That is a problem that is across the board problem within the United States health care industry. There is too much emphasis on making profits for the overpaid, often incompetent, CEOs, the Chief Executive Officers, and other highly paid executives that run those corporations, while the quality of care at nursing homes goes into the ground There should not be an incentive to please shareholders while investments in the facilities are scant and the major reason for chronic understaffing that is an issue across the board in facilities and causes them to be infection factories for vulnerable elderly and other residents suffer because of profits over patients. That is another reason that the United States health care system needs a revolution.
