South Carolina Department of Public Health confirms an Oconee County skunk has tested positive for rabies. The skunk was found near Rocky Fork Farm and Snow Creek roads near Seneca. At this time, no people are known to have been exposed. One dog was exposed and will be quarantined. The skunk was submitted to the state lab September 19 and confirmed to have rabies the following day. If you believe you, someone you know, or your pets, have come in contact with the Oconee skunk or another animal that potentially has rabies, call the health department’s Upstate Greenville-Spartanburg office at 864/372-3270 during normal business hours or after hours and on holidays at 888/847-0902.
