The International Presidents Cup Rally Can Be Directly Tied To Wild Fan Who Changed Shirts 7 Times To Inspire His Team

Mackenzie Hughes' beer-chugging attempt to inspire the International team to their first Presidents Cup didn't quite land yesterday, as the underdogs proceeded to lose every single four-ball match against the USA team. Undeterred by yesterday's nightmarish results, the gallery at the Royal Montreal Golf Club was no less spirited on Friday, punctuated by one of the most impassioned fans you'll ever see at any sporting event. International captain Mike Weir couldn't help but commend the man once he eventually made his way down from the grandstands to the first tee box, but I'm just stunned at this guy's mobility beneath so many layers. Clutch as Xander has been throughout the season en route to two major wins , he and Cantlay are getting routed today. As of this writing, they're 7-down through 11 holes! Dormie on the 12th tee!? That's about as lopsided a duel as you'll ever see in match play. Dormie just means the disparity in match play score matches the number of holes remaining. Considering Kim is one of the International team's better players, has youth on his side, and therefore could be counted on as a workhorse, I also thought it was a boneheaded move not to get him out there as much as possible. To his credit, Weir didn't waver, and didn't panic despite the 5-0 hole after on Day 1. Maybe that was such a ballsy move that it's exactly the move the International side needed. That gives the players who are going out confidence in the plan, and must be reassuring to them that Weir didn't call an audible because of how Thursday went. Look at these guys.
