    Week 5 roundup: Holland Christian survives in final seconds; ZE, Saugatuck, Fennville win

    Week 5 of the high school football season is in the books.

    Here is a look at what happened on Friday night in the Holland area.

    Holland Christian 21, East Grand Rapids 20

    The Holland Christian football team remained unbeaten when an East Grand Rapids field goal was off the mark in the final seconds.

    The Maroons improved to 5-0 and 2-0 in the OK Blue.

    Desmond Meyaard had the game-winning touchdown catch.

    Gabe Kanfara also had a touchdown catch and eight receptions. Evan Abberger was 17-for-23 passing with two scores.

    On defense, Will Grant had nine tackles and Cole Meiste added eight.

    Zeeland East 60, Wyoming 6

    The Chix improved to 3-2 with the OK Green win. Zeeland East is 1-1 in the OK Green.

    Coby Miller started the scoring with a punt return for a touchdown.

    Will Drnek then hit Isaiah Boonstra for a touchdown. Drnek then hit Will VerSteeg for a touchdown pass and the rout was on.

    Saugatuck 49, Delton Kellogg 6

    The Trailblazers improved to 4-1 with a SAC Valley win.

    Saugatuck led 29-6 at halftime and cruised to the win.

    Cass Stanberry had 19 rushes for 119 yards and four touchdowns. Stanberry also passed for a touchdown.

    On defense he had nine tackles with three for losses and two pass breakups.

    Max Page had eight rushed for 89 yards and one touchdown. He also had six tackles and one for a loss.

    Saugatuck rushed for 337 yards and 402 total yards of offense.

    "Nice work up front on the offensive line and another week of efficient offensive drives," Saugatuck coach Bill Dunn said. "Cass had a great game running and passing the football. Defensively, we were able to limit their ability to control the ball and the clock."

    Fennville 40, Tekonsha 0

    The Blackhawks earned their first win of the season at home.

    Fennville is 1-5.

    "Really nice to get a win. Very happy for my boys," Fennville coach Wendell Hughes Sr. said. "Game was called at halftime due to Tekonsha being shorthanded after a couple injuries. I feel for them as that is where we were last year."

    Quinn Rosema had four rushes for 103 yards and a touchdown. Trinity Solis had two rushing touchdowns.

    Rosema was 3-for-4 passing for 79 yards and two touchdowns.

    Ely Schut had two catches for 64 yards, both touchdowns.

    Caledonia 42, West Ottawa 27

    The West Ottawa football team scored 14 points in the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough to complete a comeback against Caledonia in and OK Red showdown.

    The Panthers dropped to 0-5 and 0-3 in the OK Red.

    Kayden Forbes scored two rushing touchdowns. Connor Knapp scored on a 57-yard pass from Makai Campos and Quinn Baseelin hit a 36- and 39-yard field goal.

    Forbes had 20 carries for 127 yards and the two scores. Campos was 15-for-20 passing for 186 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions.

    Abel Anaya led the defense with 6.5 tackles. Tai Hescott had 5.5.
