PORT ST. LUCIE − Law enforcement officials on Friday searched in the St. Lucie River after a report a firearm was thrown there following an alleged robbery and battery, a Port St. Lucie police spokesperson said.

Police and the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office dive team were involved in efforts to search the river in the area of Southeast Coral Reef Street and Southeast Crosstown Parkway following a Sept. 17 incident, police spokesperson Sgt. Dominick Mesiti said. Southeast Crosstown Parkway goes over the St. Lucie River in that area.

“There was a 19-year-old man who was meeting his 16-year-old girlfriend under the bridge to break up with her,” Mesiti said. “The 16-year-old girlfriend brought another 17-year-old male to the meeting, and during the meeting, the 17-year-old male and the 16-year-old girlfriend battered and robbed the 19-year-old male of his handgun.”

Police got information the gun was discarded in the waterway near Southeast Coral Reef Street.

Mesiti said the 19-year-old was arrested on charge of carrying a concealed firearm, while the younger teens each were arrested on single counts of strong arm robbery and battery.

I’m starting to rethink where I just move too… since moving here in the last few months, there have murders, robberies, car jacking and people threatening others with a gun in road rage…
