College Football Powerhouse Makes Quarterback Change After Dreadful Performances

    By Kevin Borba,

The Auburn Tigers are making a change at quarterback for the second time this season ahead of their Week 5 game against the No. 21 Oklahoma Sooners.

After Payton Thorne came into the year as the starter, Hugh Freeze turned to redshirt freshman Hank Brown following the Tigers' Week 2 loss to Cal, a game in which Thorne threw four interceptions.

Brown then shined in a blowout win over New Mexico the following week, throwing four touchdowns, but found himself getting yanked in favor of Thorne in their Week 4 loss to Arkansas. Brown's benching came after he tossed three picks in the first half.

In a Friday report by 247Sports' Matt Zenitz, it was revealed that Thorne would be returning to the starting lineup against the Sooners.

While Thorne has accounted for five of Auburn's eight picks on the year, he looked more poised against Arkansas than Brown did.

Thorne will need to step it up in a big way on Saturday, as the Sooners are home to one of the best defensive units in the country. The Sooners rank No. 30 in the country in total defense and lead the nation in turnovers gained with 12.

Despite the quarterback questions, ESPN still has the Tigers as one-point favorites over the Sooners. Similar to Auburn, Oklahoma is also making a change at quarterback.

Former five-star Jackson Arnold was benched in favor of true freshman Michael Hawkins Jr., who is making the first start of his college career.

Needless to say, this could be a long day for both offenses.
