Anderson Invitational | Saturday, Sept. 28 | Rochester, N.Y. | Roberts Wesleyan Cross Country TrailStart Times: Men's race -- 10 AM | Women's race -- 11 AMDistances: 8K (men), 5K (women)BACK ON THE TRAILThe Daemen University men's and women's cross country teams are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 27 as they trek to Rochester, N.Y. to run in the prestigious Harry F. Anderson Invitational at the Roberts Wesleyan University Cross Country Trails. The Wildcats will be one of 27 men's teams running and one of 23 women's teams at the meet. The men will kick off the race with an 8K scheduled for 10 AM. The women's 5K will run afterwards at 11 AM.HISTORICALThe Wildcats will be running at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational for the 16th time since 2005. Last season, the Wildcat men posted their best finish at the race in program history, finishing second out of 14 teams after placing three runners in the top-20 and four of Daemen's top five runners earning personal-bests on the course. The Wildcat women ran just three runners in the race last season and did not post a team score, but two of the three Wildcats posted PR's and finished in the top-20. REGIONAL RANKINGSThe Daemen men and women both remain in the top three teams in the East Region in the week two regional rankings by the U.S. Track &amp; Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Wildcat women are ranked second in the region behind just Southern Connecticut. Bentley, Jefferson and Adelphi are the top five women's teams in the region. On the men's side, the Wildcats remain ranked third in the region behind Southern Connecticut and Roberts Wesleyan. Bentley and Caldwell are the final teams in the top five in the East Region.HOT START FOR THE CATSThe Wildcats have raced in two meets so far this season. The women have posted a pair of top-three finishes at the first two meets of the season, placing third out of six teams at the season opening Doug Watts Open and first at the Daemen Alumni Invitational. Graduate students Camryn Bailey (Geneva, N.Y.) and Courtney Merrill (Speedway, Ind.) each finished in the top-10, with Bailey pacing the Wildcats with an 8th place finish with a time of 19:15.5 and Merrill placing 10th overall at 19:16.2. Junior Patsy Oberholzer (Greece, N.Y.) opened the season with a top-20 finish, placing 18th with a time of 20:14.8. She was followed by classmate Christa Oates (Tonawanda, N.Y.) who crossed the finish line in 20:31.2 to place 22nd. Newcomer Lia Brasacchio (Victor, N.Y.) rounded out the scorers for Daemen, placing 24th with a time of 20:33.8. At the Daemen Alumni Invitational, the Wildcats finished first out of five teams, marking the fourth consecutive season that Daemen won its own invitational meet. Merrill led the way for the Cats in the race, finishing second out of 66 runners with a time of 19:10.6, just four seconds shy of her 5K PR set at the 2021 ECC Championship meet. Merrill earned ECC Runner of the Week honors for week two of the cross country season. Bailey placed fifth overall with a time of 19:30.8, Oates set a PR of 20:04.7 as she finished 12th overall and third on the team. Brasacchio and senior Emma Cain (Lockport, N.Y.) rounded out Daemen's five scorers in the meet. Brasacchio, racing in just her second collegiate meet, also went lower than her Doug Watts Open time, finishing 15th with a time of 20:14.1. Cain placed 17th with a time of 20:33.5. The Wildcat men earned back-to-back second place finishes at the Doug Watts Open and Daemen Alumni Invitational to open the season. The Wildcats placed all five of their scorers among the race's top 30 finishers, totaling 77 points in the team standings at the Doug Watts Open. Sophomore Ethan Keating (Wooster, Ohio) recorded the first sub-21-minute 6K time of his career as he paced the Wildcats with a time of 20:51.90 - good for 14th place. It marked the first time in Keating's career that he came in as Daemen's top finisher. He was followed by graduate student Jon Moote (Wilson, N.Y.) who placed 17th with a time of 20:56.66. Junior Aidan Kincaid (Orchard Park, N.Y.), a Second Team All-Conference performer last season, posted a 20th place finish today with a time of 21:05.52. Sophomore Matthew Strasser (Alden, N.Y.) and senior Steven Blatto (Lancaster, N.Y.) rounded out the Wildcats' scorers, placing 25th (21:40.86) and 28th (21:50.03), respectively. Moote, Keating and Kincaid all placed among the first 10 finishers to lead the Daemen University men's cross country team to a second place showing at the Daemen Alumni Invitational. Moote paced the Wildcats with a time of 27:24.3, finishing in fifth place. It marked the 18th time in Moote's 21 career races that he's come across as Daemen's first finisher. Keating was among the Daemen scorers for a second consecutive race, placing sixth today with a time of 27:27.1. Keating had led the Wildcats at last week's Doug Watts Open, a 6K race, with a time of 20:51.9. Kincaid earned his second straight top-10 finish at Daemen's home meet, placing 10th today with a time of 28:06.2. He was eight seconds faster than last year when he placed fourth with a time of 28:14.7. Strasser and junior Josh Trometer (Lancaster, N.Y.) completed Daemen's five scorers in the meet. Strasser figured in the scoring for the second straight week, placing 19th with a time of 28:49.2. Trometer wasn't far behind, placing 23rd with a time of 29:23.5.Daemen will head to Bethelehem, Pa. next weekend to participate in the Paul Short Run on Saturday, Oct. 5. This will be the first time since the 2021 season that the Wildcats raced in the Paul Short Run.
