Monte came in 3-3 and coming off a 3-0 loss to last year’s 1A runner up Klahowya. Tenino had a 4-2-1 record and looked to continue their hot start to the season.This match was fast paced and action packed from the start. Callie Mickelson got a clean shot at goal less than a minute in for the Beavers but Izzie Taylor was there for her first of many saves in the match. The Bulldogs got the goal scoring started in the 23rd minute when Adda Potts hit a hard shot from distance. The Tenino defense was pressed with Maria Summers and Kyra Dirks making several big plays to keep the match close. As the last few seconds of the half ticked down Montesano’s freshman wing Lainey Robinson made an impressive run down the sideline drawing the defense in before sending a pass to Potts for the 2-0 halftime lead. Montesano picked up right were they left off scoring just 3 minutes into the 2nd half. Sam Roundtree hit the shot from the top of the 18 yard box. Tenino answered in the 46th with Holly Thoren shedding off a couple defenders and finding Callie Mickelson who one timed it home. The combo of Jaelyn Butterfield and Adda Potts was relentless for Montesano. They both have speed and a seemingly endless motor they took over the match. Butterfield got her goal in the 74th minute to put the Bulldogs up 4-1. Potts finished her hat-trick just like she started it with a perfectly placed shot from distance in the 77th for the 5-1 final. Adda Potts was easily named our Thorebecke’s MVP for scoring the hat trick and all out effort. Izzie Taylor had 11 saves so Tenino had opportunities to make it much closer than the 5-1 score implies.Tenino is now 4-3-1 overall and 0-1 in league and heads to Elma on Tuesday October 1st.
