MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — Cheltenham Township police are searching for three people they say robbed a girl of her cellphone while she was waiting for the school bus Wednesday morning.

“These were a series of students that were waiting at bus stops and the actors approached two groups first, demanding property, and did not get anything,” said Cheltenham Lt. Rich Schaffer.

Schaffer says around 7:45 a.m. someone driving a black Kia Sedan attempted to steal from students near Mountain Avenue and Valley Road in Elkins Park, just minutes from the county border.

Police say the driver then approached a teen girl on the 400 block of Asbury Avenue. They say a male passenger called the girl over to the car, threatened her, then grabbed her phone from her hands and drove off.

Police say the car had a Delaware license plate, tinted windows and significant damage to the front.

Police believe two men and one woman were inside the car. They are believed to be in their late teens or early 20s.

Anyone with information is asked to call Cheltenham police at 215-885-1600 ext. 400.

Harris says we don’t have any crime issue here. She also said we needed less police officers. She said we don’t need to be tough on crime.
