VERNON – Senior Demeir Thomas made a big play in the end zone for Rockville, knocking the ball away from Granby/Canton’s Ben Vrabel with only a few seconds left, and Rockville hung on for a 27-20 win in a Pequot Conference football game Friday night.

With 2:07 left in the game, the Bears (1-1) were on the 43-yard line and driving. Senior defensive lineman Jonathan Kasamba sacked Granby quarterback Vincent Forte but then Forte rallied with a 24-yard pass to Carter Chambers that brought Granby to the 17. Forte had a 5-yard run to get the ball to the 12 but he had an incomplete pass on 3rd and 5 and the final incomplete pass. Rockville took over on downs and the clock ran out.

The Rams did all their scoring in the first half. Senior quarterback Brady Ramsdell had three touchdown passes in the first half and completed 11 of 22 passes for 246 yards. Sophomore William Davis had two receiving touchdowns and sophomore Kayden Boland had a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown and Rockville led 27-12 at halftime.

Granby rallied in the second half, when Forte scored a touchdown on an 8-yard run and also scored on the conversion to cut the lead to 27-20.
