Homecoming always creates a festive atmosphere and Friday night proved no different as the Le Sueur-Henderson Giants faced off against the Sibley East Wolverines. With dominance on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, the Giants kept the celebration going all night with a 45-0 shutout victory.

With the win, LS-H improves to a record of 2-3 on the season.

From the opening kickoff, it was all Giants as they broke chunk running plays to the Sibley East side of the field before Joseph Hutton broke loose on the right side for a 29 yard rushing touchdown. After George Doherty drilled the point after try, LS-H had a 7-0 lead less than three months into game.

The Wolverines took the following kickoff to the 34 yard line but their drive came to an abrupt end when Doherty stepped in front of a pass to the right side for an interception that he took down to the 17. Shortly afterwards, quarterback Brody Berndt connected with tight end Nolan Weber for a five-yard touchdown followed by another successful PAT.

Sibley East got into third and short yardage on its next drive, but pressure and a sack from Peyton Tellijohn forced the Wolverines to punt the ball. Sibley East punted the ball to the 44 yard line and a holding left LS-H with first and 20 when lightning struck again.

Berndt found Hutton, this time on a slant route to the middle where he was able to make the final defender miss on the way to a 66 yard touchdown and PAT to give the Giants a 21-0 lead with 1:42 remaining in the first quarter. The Wolverines next drive stalled out and despite a nice punt putting LS-H at the 32 to start the next drive, the Giants offense continued to dice up the defense of Sibley East.

On a fourth and two, Doherty rushed three yards for a first and Weber caught passes of 20 and 13 yards before Berndt connected with Weber again on an 11 yard passing touchdown. As time ran down in the first half, Sibley East punted to its own 41 and Berndt completed his incredible first half with a 29 yard touchdown pass to Grady Graham, giving the Giants a 33-0 lead at the break.

The Wolverines came out of the halftime break looking to get any kind of momentum back in their favor, but after a first down, defensive lineman Connor Hank broke through the line and stripped the ball loose during a sack, allowing fellow defensive lineman Jayden Kotasek to come away with the fumble recovery.

The first LS-H drive to not result in a score didn't effect the team as Sibley East went three and out and punted the ball to the 50. Facing fourth and three from the 31 yard line, Berndt lofted a ball over the defensive backs, connecting with Weber on their third touchdown of the night as the ball fell perfectly into Weber's hands.

The score would remain 39-0 going into the fourth quarter, prompting running time and a final touchdown by the Giants during that time gave them the score of 45-0.

LS-H is scheduled to return to action Friday, Oct. 4, when the team travels to Maple River to take on the Eagles. Maple River enters the contest with a record of 1-4 on the season.
