With tropical moisture trailing from the remnants of Helene, rain chances are highest today, particularly over the western portions of South Florida. These showers could produce heavy rainfall, raising the risk of localized flooding in some areas. Although rain chances decrease slightly on Sunday, drier air will not fully enter the region until late in the day.
Heat Advisory in Effect as Temperatures Soar
The southwesterly wind flow will drive heat index values to extreme levels today, especially in the east coast metro areas, including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach. High temperatures combined with high humidity could make it feel like 112 degrees in some locations. While slightly drier air is expected Sunday, it will still be hot, with heat indices ranging from 105 to 110 degrees across much of the area.
Marine Conditions Improve as Helene Weakens
Wind conditions are expected to lighten through the weekend as the remnants of Helene continue to weaken over the Ohio and Tennessee River Valleys. Seas will remain below 4 feet on both the Atlantic and Gulf sides, making for more favorable boating conditions by early next week.
Rip Current Risk Remains Elevated Along South Florida Beaches
The risk of rip currents remains high along the Atlantic beaches of South Florida, particularly in Broward and the Palm Beaches, through early next week. Swimmers are advised to exercise caution and heed warnings from local authorities. Elevated rip current risks are also expected today along the Gulf beaches in Collier County.
