Georgia defensive lineman Mykel Williams is a game time decision for the Bulldogs’ game against Alabama Saturday, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

“Sources: Georgia star defensive lineman Mykel Williams is a gametime decision for the No. 2 Bulldogs at No. 4 Alabama today,” Thamel wrote on Twitter. “It’s considered a ‘true gametime decision’ with his injured ankle. He’s Mel Kiper Jr.’s No. 4 overall NFL Draft prospect.”

Head coach Kirby Smart provided the latest on Williams, as well as Warren Brinson and Jordan Hall, earlier this week.

“Yeah, Warren’s continue to practice, taking his rep load. Mykel has been able to do a little bit. I still don’t know the timeline on Mykel. He’s looked good running and taking some reps, some light reps, some rush reps, some stuff he did today. It’s his first day really getting out there and doing some things,” Smart said on Tuesday . “I haven’t talked to Ron (Courson), so I don’t know. I want to watch the tape and be able to see that. Jordan’s still pushing through. But yeah, feel good about Warren. Mykel is gonna be close, and Jordan is still trying to get into practice.”

Williams was listed as questionable on a lengthy Friday injury report for Georgia.

Georgia at Alabama is shaping up to be the biggest game of the year so far. The game will be under the lights with a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff on ABC , and College GameDay will be in attendance as the fanfare continues to grow.

Mykel Williams a ‘game time’ decision

All eyes are on the quarterbacks, though, as Jalen Milroe and Carson Beck battle it out for the first time since last year’s SEC Championship. As for what the keys will be for both players, ESPN analyst Greg McElroy said it comes down to playing to their strengths.

“I think Carson Beck is so hard not to love,” McElroy said on Get Up . “I mean, the guy is just outrageously accurate. Totally understandable why you would look at him and say, ‘This guy is the most gifted thrower in college football at the moment.’ The thing is — recency bias now, maybe the worst game of his career, as far as seeing the field, came just a couple of weeks ago against Kentucky . Kentucky was able to confuse him, he left a lot of big plays on the field as a result, so I’m kind of looking for a bounce-back performance from him.

“I think they’re kind of right with Jalen Milroe. There’s something about his athleticism that makes him impossible to defend, and he’s a lot like Lamar Jackson was in college football. I mean, very, very similar. Extremely underrated as a passer, especially on the down-field throws. You just can’t tackle the guy. So, while it was maybe taboo awhile back to think, ‘Oh, Lamar is just going to go into the NFL and run like crazy against these NFL defenses,’ well, guess what? We’ve seen that happen now with Lamar, so it’s not surprising for me to see draft analysts start to come around on Jalen Milroe, because the question is, can you get him to the ground? The answer, for many, is no.”
