Free gas and grocery giveaway in Chicago on October 5

CHICAGO — On October 5, Dr. Willie Wilson will hold another gas and grocery giveaway in Chicago to support residents facing rising costs of fuel and groceries. As part of the event, participants can receive $50 worth of free gas at designated gas stations or a $25 grocery card for use at select stores. The giveaway will operate on a first-come, first-served basis, and grocery cards must be used on the day they are received.

The event will take place across 14 gas stations in Chicago and suburban Hinsdale, with distribution beginning at 7 a.m. Four grocery stores in Chicago will also participate, with start times between 9 a.m. and noon.

Dr. Wilson, a businessman and philanthropist, has held similar giveaways in the past, with this being his 16th event in the Chicagoland area. He emphasized the ongoing challenges many Chicagoans face due to fluctuating gas prices and food insecurity.

"While inflation has cooled to 2.5%, overall food prices are up 28 percent since 2019. Our citizens are still struggling from high gasoline and grocery prices," Dr. Wilson said in a statement. "Gas prices are volatile and higher in Illinois because of the taxes on gasoline. Food insecurity remains a problem in Chicago and Cook County. This is my 16th Gas Giveaway in the Chicagoland area. I am proud to do my part to help ease the pain many of our senior citizens and others experience from high prices."

The gas giveaways will take place at various locations, including stations operated by Shell, BP, Citgo, and Marathon. Grocery card distribution will be held at stores such as Cermak Fresh Market, Montrose Deli, and Seafood City Supermarket.

Wilson's initiative comes at a time when many Chicago residents continue to feel the pressure of elevated living costs. Despite a reduction in inflation rates, the prices of essential goods like groceries remain significantly higher than in previous years. Wilson's giveaway aims to provide immediate relief to individuals and families struggling to make ends meet.

Participants are encouraged to arrive early due to the high demand for the assistance being provided. Participating gas stations and grocery stores are listed below:
