ACC Network analyst accuses conference of manipulating result

The Friday night game between the Miami Hurricanes and Virginia Tech Hokies had one of the wildest endings you will ever see in a college football game. And Hokie alum and current ACC Network analyst Eddie Royal called shenanigans on the outcome.

The game came down to the final play. With Miami clinging to a 38-34 lead in the closing seconds, Virginia Tech quarterback Kyron Drones launched a wild Hail Mary attempt into the endzone that fell into a sea of humanity.

While the play was originally called a touchdown on the field, ACC officials overturned the call after a lengthy review, giving the win to Miami and allowing them to continue their undefeated season. You can watch the entire sequence below.

One person who vehemently disagreed with the call was current ACC Network analyst and former Virginia Tech wide receiver Eddie Royal. The former Broncos wide receiver played nine seasons in the NFL and was an All-ACC first team selection during his time at Blacksburg. And when the review didn’t go the way of his Hokies and the victory was taken away, he let loose on X, calling it a “F***ing joke” and wondering if the outcome was predetermined.

You can understand Royal’s frustration after Virginia Tech came so close to pulling off what would have been a huge upset. But it’s pretty wild to see an ACC Network analyst accuse the ACC itself of fixing a game. That doesn’t happen very often! What does Royal think this is, a Duke basketball game?!

Sure, the ACC would be better off with Miami staying unbeaten and making a legitimate run to the College Football Playoff and a first round bye, but if the result was predetermined… why call it a touchdown on the field and then only overturn it upon review? Or was that part of the ACC’s grand scheme all along? One has to believe Royal will receive a phone call from someone high up in the league office to discuss.
