The defense is getting pressure more on Vandagriff this half but the secondary still giving up enough yards on passes in key downs to keep the Wildcats having a pulse. They convert a 48-yard field goal try to re-take the lead.

First possession of the second half mirrored the opening drive of the game for the offense. Only difference was a field goal instead of a touchdown as things stalled in the red zone. Caden Davis with a 31-yard field goal try to tie things up.

Kentucky had the chance to double dip with a touchdown to open the half but the Rebels defense with a strong answer out of the locker room punctuated by a sack from Umanmielen.

HALFTIME: KENTUCKY 10, OLE MISS 7

Ole Miss had 30 yards of offense on 17 plays after that opening touchdown possession. Two of those four drives resulted in -4 and -1 yards.

More penalties, including two on Trey Amos, that keep the drive going for Kentucky and Vandagriff scores on the 5-yard touchdown pass. A review upheld the score and Ole Miss trails for the first time this season.

Reached the two-minute timeout “warning” and Kentucky has moved back to Rebels 35. Vandagriff has 79 yards on 9-of-12 passing and is currently the Wildcats leading rusher with 24 yards on 9 carries.

Since the opening touchdown drive the Ole Miss offense last three possessions have totaled 35 yards and 15 plays. The drive after the scoring possession lasted 3 plays for -1 yards. Kentucky’s defensive line has been a problem since.

Penalties were an issue at Wake Forest and against Georgia Southern and so far today as well for the defense. Ole Miss hit with 5 for 28 yards through the first 19 minutes of play.

END OF THE 1ST QUARTER: OLE MISS 7, KENTUCKY 3

Nice adjustments by Pete Golding to force a three and out for Kentucky. Ivey, Princely and Pooh Paul get to Vandagriff for the sack.

No. 0 Deon Walker is a problem for the Ole Miss offensive line. That was all him disrupting one side on third down to force the sack of Dart and the Rebels are off the field in three plays.

Ole Miss 7, Kentucky 3 5:13 1st Qtr

Still only one touchdown allowed this season as the Rebels defense bent at times but did not break. Nice red zone stand to force the 27-yard field goal try by the Wildcats. Kentucky used up over 7 minutes of the clock and 15 plays.

Defense looks good at times but still unable to get off the field on a 4th and inches and some other third downs that drive. Wildcats used some trick plays and use of Gavin Wimstatt in a wildcat formation.

Ole Miss 7, Kentucky 0 12:51 1st Qtr

First time against a SEC defense is is a good one for the Rebels offense. Dart looked in control and a balanced attack on the ground and the air. Tre Harris with a 39-yard catch up the middle sets up a 1-yard touchdown run for Parrish to finish off the drive.

Reece McIntyre the starting center as Warren still not making his season debut, yet.

Scratch that, the review showed Davis lost control of the ball after his shoulder hit the field. No fumble.

Micah Davis got rocked on the kickoff return and fumbles the ball. Kentucky recovers it and starting at the Rebels 17.

Kentucky won the toss and deferred. Ole Miss offense gets the ball first.

PREGAME

No. 6 Ole Miss breaks the season on its Southeastern Conference slate on Saturday with Kentucky coming to Oxford for the first 11 a.m. kickoff for the Rebels this season.

The first real test for the Rebels (4-0) after bullying all four of its non-conference games this month. Do not look for 40-50 points against this Wildcats defense which boasts the third-best run defense in the SEC and sixth best defense among FBS teams.

This week brought about the first availability reports for Ole Miss with it being its first SEC game week. Saturday’s final report posted about 90 minutes before kickoff included a bit of a surprise with offensive lineman Jayden Williams will be out. A tough loss for the offensive front five going up against that Kentucky defensive line and needing to establish the run.

Other names listed were none that were too suprising.

The offensive line could see Caleb Warren make his season debut as he was listed on the first three reports this week but left off Saturday’s final one.
