The SEC is home to multiple national championship-winning programs. The top five in terms of national championships are the Alabama Crimson Tide (13), LSU Tigers (4), Georgia Bulldogs (3), Florida Gators (3) and Auburn Tigers (2).

Teams like LSU, Florida, and Auburn have had a tough road back to competing for national titles. Florida has yet to have a winning season under head coach Billy Napier. LSU has not been to the College Football Playoff since 2019. Auburn last won a national title in 2010 with the help of Heisman winner Cam Newton.

While Auburn football is rebuilding, Paul Finebaum praised its fans on "SEC Nation." Finebaum said that in all the years that he has covered football, one constant has been the loyalty of Auburn fans. Finebaum stated that Auburn fans "never lose faith."

"One thing that I've always learned," Finebaum said. "I've covered Auburn off and on for more than 40 years. Auburn fans never lose faith. They still believe in Hugh Freeze. So, now it's up to Hugh Freeze to deliver today."

Auburn is 2-2 heading into Week 5. However, there has been some inconsistent play at quarterback. Payton Thorne began the season as the starter, but Hank Brown replaced the veteran after the loss to the California Golden Bears. Brown led Auburn to a win over New Mexico with 235 passing yards and four touchdowns.

However, Brown fell back to Earth against the Arkansas Razorbacks and threw three interceptions during the first half. Thorne replaced Brown, and Auburn lost 24-14.

Freeze named Thorne the starter against the Oklahoma Sooners for Week 5. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC and ESPN+.
