Bill Maher Shocked How Softball Ruhle’s MSNBC Interview With Kamala Harris Turned Out: Still Didn’t Expect Them ‘To Be Rubbing Her Feet’

Bill Maher said even he was surprised at how softball MSNBC’s interview of Vice President Kamala Harris was, just a week after interviewer Stephanie Ruhle was on his show defending Harris not facing tough questions from the press.

On Friday’s Real Time , Maher knocked both Harris and former President Donald Trump in his monologue. Maher mocked Trump’s generic promise that women will be “happy, healthy, confident, and free,” comparing the vow to a deodorant commercial.

Maher blasted Harris over an Arizona border visit, joking it’s her second time working somewhere where there is a convenient drive thru.

“I think Kamala Harris is playing this just right. Now one of her big issues that she’s vulnerable on is the border so she went to the border this week. She went to the border in Arizona. She used to be the border czar. She visited there. So, interesting, along with working at McDonald’s, now that’s two people she’s worked that have a convenient drive thru,” he said.

Harris was never officially the border czar , but she was put in charge of finding the root causes of increased migration from Central America. During this time, she earned criticism for never actually visiting the southern border.

Maher went on to roast Harris over her lack of media interviews. Harris has increased her media interviews in recent weeks, but critics have blasted the vice president for mainly sticking with softball interviews like supporter Oprah Winfrey .

“There’s been a lot of pressure on her. She doesn’t do interviews. She doesn’t answer questions. So she sat for an interview. She said, okay, I will answer your hardball questions. She she went on MSNBC,” Maher said, laughing along with the audience.

Harris’s campaign announced the interview with Ruhle following the MSNBC anchor defending Harris on Real Time against criticisms she avoided the press and specific policy questions.

Trump also took to social media to personally attack Ruhle after the Real Time appearance.

“Alright, you know, they were not hardball questions, but I still expected not them to be rubbing her feet,” Maher said.

The comedian also predicted on Friday that Trump is “definitely going to lose” to the vice president.

Ruhle has been defending the Harris interview against critics, saying that they kept to economic topics. She also dismissed concerns about Harris speaking in “platitudes” as no big deal when defending the Vice President on Morning Joe .

“Many people feel like she’s speaking in platitudes, that she’s speaking about an economic vision and she’s not giving details. She’s got an 80-paged detailed policy proposal!” she said . “And do I think she answers every single question and gives people exactly what they want? She doesn’t. You know why? Because she’s a politician and none of them do. They all speak in platitudes.”
