Injured Mitchell Robinson New Role: Knicks' 6th Man?

The New York Knicks recently announced that their former starting center, Mitchell Robinson, would be out until around December or January with an ankle injury that he sustained last year. This was one of the things that pushed the team to make the biggest move of the offseason.

The Knicks are finalizing a deal that sends Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, and a first-round pick to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Karl-Anthony Towns. This deal could change Robinson's role when he returns from injury.

The team was in desperate need of a starting center until Robinson did come back, but most thought they would make a move for big that would just fill in until he was back on the court. Instead, the Knicks went out and got a full-fledged superstar.

As a result, the team will have a decision to make come December or January, as they will have to figure out what to do with Robinson. The logical answer is to make him the team's sixth man and make him the first guy to come off the bench.

If the team is ever in a position late in a game where they need defense more than offense, putting Robinson in for KAT would be a solid plan, as it gives the team some options down the stretch.

Whatever the team decides to do, Robinson will be looking to still make his impact felt despite the new starter in his place.
