Iran has condemned the Israeli attack on Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah as a war crime.

"The Zionist [Israeli] attacks are a clear war crime and the West's response to it is a disgrace," President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Saturday, according to the presidential office's web portal. He alleged that the US approved the attack and thus bears partial responsibility for Nasrallah's death.

"This terrorist act by the Zionists [Israel] has indeed left a deep wound but has further strengthened the resistance," the president said.

He stated that Iran continues to stand by Hezbollah and the anti-Israel resistance front. As Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei had said earlier Saturday, Pezeshkian described Hezbollah as invincible.

A state-organized mourning ceremony for Nasrallah took place in the capital, Tehran, on Saturday afternoon. During the funeral procession, the Hezbollah leader was honoured as "immortal."

Thousands chanted "revenge, revenge" and demanded a resolute response from the Iranian government against Israel. Hezbollah is one of Iran's most important allies in the fight against Israel.
