The wild child of country music is hitting us with two new ones. Gavin Adcock announced that he was gearing up to release the first singles since his sophomore record, Actin' Up Again . While he was initially going to release them both simultaneously, fans were begging for new music, so he granted their wish, giving fans a mid-week surprise and dropping the second single on New Music Friday. https://www.instagram.com/p/DAbDqGjRI5K/ His first new track, "I've Got Three," is homegrown country. The outlaw-inspired single highlights Adcock's rowdy lifestyle and how he often feels invincible, as if he has three lives. For those who see a little bit of Koe Wetzel in Gavin Adcock, let's address the obvious: Yes, the premise of this song reminds us of "9 Lives." Adcock's lyrical message differs, however though, as he sings of a man who often finds himself battling with himself. Whether he is drinking too much, gambling, or partaking in other vices, he's running from his problems, and as he avoids facing his demons, his actions are leading him down a questionable path.
"It's been a mind-racing evening I've been hurtin' and grievin' About all the cash I've spent Don't know if I'll make the rent And it's all for me to see I've got a problem with me I got one life to live Better quit living like I got three..." The track's melody allows Adcock's thick and smooth vocals to shine, while the simple guitar melody perfectly frames the lyrics. When the song's bridge comes around, the melody picks up, and listeners get a stellar piano solo. As the player bangs on the keys, you feel transported into an old blues bar with a rocking band, highlighting the outlaw sound throughout the track. And the vocal slides Adcock puts on the last line of each chorus send chills through your spine. It gets a chef's kiss from us. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hd6Xt03KBh4 His second single is a slow heartbreak ballad. The narrator is looking back on a relationship that he thought could have led to a ring, but as he reflects on the time they shared, he realizes how broken it was from the beginning. While he was sad about the situation at the time, he's come to realize that she was not meant for him, and instead of saying "you're for me" to her, he's changed his tune to "you're for you."
"We can't pick fights with the wind no more We took the ship and sailed right into shore You can't fix love with one foot out the door I'm for me and baby, You're for you..." Adcock is on a roll, becoming more prominent by the day. Singles like these show two very different sides of his sound, and he will keep growing and expanding his fanbase. Keep 'em coming. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ihyXK8r8jc
