Key plays, big third quarter lifts Warren JFK past Mogadore
2024-09-28
MOGADORE, OH- In a game where rushing needed to be the key because of the elements, Warren JFK prevailed over Mogadore 27-8.
In the first quarter where the rain would limit both teams from throwing the ball, both relied on the run game but ultimately the first quarter would end scoreless.
Things would ramp up during the second quarter of play with JFK striking first with a 7 yard touchdown run from junior Steven Thomas and a successful 2-point conversion that would put Warren up 8-0 with 4:40 left to play in the half, Mogadore would answer driving down the field and scoring on a 1 yard run by senior Aaron Rumschlag and also a successful 2-point conversion that would tie the game up 8-8 and end the half.
Entering the third quarter Warren would find a ton of success from the defensive side of the ball, after a drive but failing to convert a field goal with 8:44 left in quarter the Eagles would turn to defense to help propel them.
Off a key interception to start a 19 point third quarter by junior LaMarcus Provitt for a touchdown with 6:38 left and a failed 2-point conversion, Warren would go up 14-8 and the scoring barrage would not end as they would return a punt for a touchdown by senior Marcus Komora and a blocked punt returned for a touchdown that would put the final stamp on the game leading 27-8.
"It really started with preparation this week just going over the plays they run, the routes the way they be lined up in today I just made it all come together," Komora said, after his interception late in the 4th quarter to seal a victory.
"We just piled it on, it was defense, special teams, we get a blocked punt, we get a punt return, LaMarcus cashes in on a deep post, so when were putting all those things together it's complimentary football," Buente said.
That would be all the Eagles needed to claim the victory and move on to 5-1 and face a 3-3 Rootstown team coming off a 56-8 victory over a visiting Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas.
For Adorni and the Wildcats it will be moving past this loss and facing a Canton Central Catholic team with identical records to go into week 7 of Ohio High School Football.
