After almost a decade with the Timberwolves, Karl-Anthony Towns is in uncharted territory with the New York Knicks. According to the latest intel from Evan Sidery, Towns was blindsighted by the move and headed straight for the gym when he found out, where he spent his last moments as a Timberwolf shooting in their workout facility until 3:00 in the morning.

Loyalty is far from dead in the NBA and Karl-Anthony Towns was as loyal as they get. He's been with the Timberwolves since his NBA debut and after nine years with the club, he worked his way up to VIP status for his role on and off the court. When Anthony Edwards came to town, Towns was happy to take a step back to accommodate the youngster and he was ready to adjust when Rudy Gobert joined.

But with the NBA being a business first, no player is immune from being traded and Towns finally experienced that fact for himself after being traded to the Knicks . While most players would be happy about the move, Towns seems pretty shaken by the news.

The Timberwolves have never been a premier destination for players, but Towns had grown a deep connection with the team, the players, and many people who worked within the organization. Since he was drafted by the Timberwolves in 2015, Karl (28) has been a core member of the group and a favorite among the fans.

After helping the Timberwolves reach the Western Conference Finals in May, with an average of 19.1 points per game, Towns had visions of winning a title with the Timberwolves and making good on his promise from years ago .

But in a stunning move that nobody saw coming, the Wolves traded Towns for Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, and a first-round pick from the Pistons to maximize Anthony Edwards' title window . The thinking seems to be that depth and versatility are worth more than star power and with their brand new roster, the Wolves have ambitions to go further than they ever have before.

Unfortunately for Towns , it means that he'll have to leave everything he's known for the past nine years and hope that things click with his new team. The good news is that the young center seems to have a high opinion of the Knicks.

“I’ve always been a Knicks fan," said Towns in an old interview . "My favorite player for the Knicks is a tie between Walt Frazier and Patrick Ewing"

Towns may not be in the GOAT conversation but he is on a Hall of Fame trajectory right now as one of the best offensive big men in the game. Alongside Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, and OG Anunoby, Towns is poised to have his best season yet and the new combination of talent could push the Knicks over the top as a title contender.

But while the trade is still fresh, it's going to take time for KAT to get used to his new surroundings and accept his new role as a potential third option on the Knicks. Most of all, he's going to regret not finishing what he started in Minnesota. After helping them go from bottom feeders to contenders, Karl wanted to help them finish the job and win a championship. The Timberwolves never gave him the chance.
