SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (WKBN) – Youngstown State fell in the final seconds 38-31 at Missouri State in a Missouri Valley Conference matchup on Saturday.

The Penguins were able to erase a 14-point fourth quarter deficit to tie the game up at 31-31 after a 45-yard touchdown run by quarterback Beau Brungard with five minutes left.

But the Grizzlies answered with a five-play, 53-yard touchdown drive to take the lead with just eight seconds remaining in the game.

Missouri State quarterback Jacob Clark completed 21 of 29 passes for 325 yards and three passing touchdowns, while wide receiver Jmariyae Robinson led all pass catchers with 104 yards on three catches.

For YSU, Brungard finished the day 18 of 31 for 180 passing yards through the air, and another 110 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

With the loss, they fall to 1-4 on the season after three consecutive losses and 0-1 in conference play.

The Guins return home to host Indiana State on Saturday, Oct. 5 for YSU homecoming.
