There's nothing better than when a rescue dog gets to enjoy the good life. No matter what they've gone through in the past, it's that hope for a sweeter future that every pup deserves. For rescue dog Cactus, his start wasn't the greatest, but now, he's living it up in his forever home, complete with his very own story time with Dad - and it's the most heartwarming thing.

In an adorable Instagram clip posted by @cactustherescue, Cactus snuggles on the couch with his favorite person for a very special story time. Watch the beautiful bond between these two!

"When you know your rescue puppy had a terrible beginning to his life, so you take it into your hands to give him the most amazing life possible and be the best friend he could ever ask for," the video says as Cactus cuddles up with Dad—aka Mike Henry Brown —to read a story.

"My Aunt got me this book when I adopted Cactus and I’m so thankful for it," the caption begins. "I decided to include him while reading it and it turns out he loves getting read to! Now it’s one of our favorite ways to hang out together."

It's clear why the clip is melting hearts all over the web. Cactus is a total sweetheart deserving of all the good things in life since his rescue by Pups Without Borders from a California desert.

"This is the cutest thing on IG!!!! I love Cactus!!!!" one person wrote.

"And he likes being read to!! Can Cactus be more perfect? The way he sits with you on the couch, paying attention!!" another said.

"This is the sweetest, Mr. Cactus. This is exactly what our dogs enjoy most, love from us. And you will get it back MANY times over. You two are the BEST!" another added.

Do Dogs Like Being Read To?

By the looks of Cactus, it seems as though he's really into that book. According to Dogster , it isn't a question of whether dogs like being read to ; it's about what they understand of it (and what they don't).

On the surface, it might appear like your pup gets what's being said as you read, but they're actually just enjoying the companionship, your bond, and the sound of your voice—not the words themselves.

There are still many benefits to reading to a dog such as reduced stress, barking, vocalizations, and increased periods of rest. This is true of audiobooks, too. Research shows that pups who listened to an audiobook with a person present had a more relaxed emotional state, calmer, and had better general welfare.

Dogs don't have to understand our words to know the activity of being read to provides soothing, positive feelings. So be like Cactus's dad— grab a good book , and cuddle up on the couch with your favorite canine!
