Deion Sanders Admits He Was 'Really Upset' About Travis Hunter

Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes improved their record to 4-1 after pulling off a 48-21 upset win over the UCF Knights on Saturday.

The Buffs entered the game as nearly two-touchdown road underdogs but instead posted 418 yards of offense and forced four turnovers during a second-half blowout.

With the win, Colorado handed UCF its first loss of the year and also matched its 2023 win total before the calendar turned to October. It's also marked the school's first 4-1 start since the 2020 season.

Colorado's two-way star, Travis Hunter, was again dominant on both sides of the ball. In addition to his second interception of the season and striking a Heisman post to celebrate , he caught a game-high nine passes for 89 yards and a touchdown, his sixth receiving score of the year.

During his on-field interview with Fox immediately after the game, Sanders admitted that he was momentarily "really upset" about Hunter's final stat line.

"We were really upset because they just told me he needed like 10 more yards to consistently have his 100-yard streak," Sanders said. "We were gonna try to get it to him, but we didn't want to be outlandish or do anything crazy to provoke ignorance.

"But Travis is OK with it. He's not playing for that. He's just playing for — he wants to be one of the best players in college football. And I think he is."

Hunter had recorded at least 100 receiving yards in his last five games dating back to Colorado's season finale against Utah last November. With four games over the century mark this season, he has already surpassed last season's total of three 100-plus-yard games.

Speaking about Hunter during his postgame media availability, Sanders again added that, "I wish to God that the game was in a way that we could've kept going with his 100-yard mark, even though he don't care, we care."

Sanders, Hunter and the Buffaloes have a bye in Week 6. They're slated to return to Boulder in Week 7 to host Kansas State on Saturday, Oct. 12
