Kirby Smart and Georgia make history in the worst way imaginable after abysmal first half against Alabama

The Georgia Bulldogs and Kirby Smart have posted three consecutive undefeated regular seasons and won two national championships in the last three years. They've been making history in all kinds of amazing ways here recently. But against Alabama on Saturday? They made history in the worst way imaginable through the first half of action.

Alabama absolutely dominated the first half of action averaging 9.3 yards per play, moving down the field making Georgia's defense look like an impossibly bad small school squad. Carson Beck threw two interceptions. It was an absolute disaster for Georgia.

At halftime Alabama held a 30-7 lead, which made some Georgia program history, at least under head coach Kirby Smart. It had been 109 games since Georgia had trailed by more than 17 points at halftime. The last time that happened? It was early in Kirby Smart's first season with Georgia against Ole Miss back in 2016.

Back in 2016, when Georgia faced off against Ole Miss, they were still finding themselves under new head coach Kirby Smart. The defense completely collapsed, giving up 31 unanswered first half points. The final score went on to be 45-14. Georgia recovered somewhat after that game, but finished the season 8-5.

This year's Georgia team is way too good to lose many more games, but unless something changes they're certainly not going to win against Alabama. And they certainly don't look like they're going to push for another national championship this year unless they can get their act together on both sides of the ball.
