In his first major league start since Aug. 31, Vasquez surrendered only one hit through six innings, but he hit two batters and walked one. Carroll doubled off Vasquez to begin the bottom of the sixth. Joc Pederson reached on a catcher interference call against Higashioka to put two on with one out. Carroll advanced to third and Pederson to second with steals on a Walker strikeout, but Vasquez struck out Lourdes Gurriel Jr. with a sweeper to end the inning. A Geraldo Perdomo walk put the D-backs' leadoff hitter on in the eighth against Wandy Peralta, but Arizona again couldn't score.
