Good morning, Arizona. Here's what our reporters are working on and what you should know about what's happening across the state before you start your day.

The board overseeing Arizona's public university system is urging leaders to reverse cuts in this year's higher education budget for the next school year.

The Arizona Board of Regents finalized a request for $732 million more in state funding in a Thursday meeting, saying it needs that money to avoid future consequences. The appeal comes after the state Legislature and Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs reduced its investment in the universities by nearly $97 million, as policymakers corrected a state deficit.

More on the five requests made and why Regent Gregg Brewster said "it’s not a negotiation. It really is a need.”
