Ibrahima Konate achieves feat no other Liverpool center-back has done for second time

Ibrahima Konate reached a remarkable milestone with his goal against Wolves on Saturday.

The Liverpool defender popped up with yet another headed goal on the stroke of half-time in the 2-1 victory at Molineux to help his side on its way to another three points, following up his almost-identical goal in the Champions League victory over AC Milan earlier this month.

Konate's first-half added time strike was his second of the season but just his first in the Premier League , despite arriving at Anfield in 2021 and finding the back of the net on four previous occasions. However, there was also another major milestone he reached with Saturday's goal against Wolves .

The Frenchman's header in the dying embers of the first-half was also his third successive goal contribution in as many games for Liverpool, following his strike against AC Milan and assist for Luis Diaz's opener in the 3-0 victory over Bournemouth last weekend.

This impressive feat meant Konate has become the only center back to score or assist a goal in three successive appearances for Liverpool in the Premier League era - and it's not the first time he's achieved it, either.

The France international initially did so in April 2022 when scoring for the Reds home and away against Benfica in the Champions League semi-finals, before converting against Manchester City in their FA Cup semi-final at Wembley in the following game.

The stunning statistic was revealed by football data expert Michael Reid on X (formerly Twitter) following the game, before he also confirmed that Konate was the first player to score all of his first five Liverpool goals with his head since Mark Wright in December 1993.

So it turns out that Konate's strike against Wolves this weekend proved to be quite the record breaker, with the Frenchman lapping up the accolades after seeing his header hit the back of the net in Liverpool's sixth Premier League game of the season.

The Frenchman has already played a vital part in Arne Slot's near-perfect start to life as Reds manager but is also writing his own chapter in the history books during this early part of the campaign, setting both him and Liverpool up nicely for the remainder of the season as they go in search of more success.
