Damning message sent on whether Mack Brown makes it to UNC’s bye week

The questions continue to pour in on UNC’s head coach Mack Brown and whether he will still be there at the end of the season. Or even remain in his post by the end of October.

Saturday Down South’s Brett Friedlander wonders if Brown's future will be the biggest question asked by the bye week.

“So now what? Where does UNC go from here? Pragmatically, it heads back to Chapel Hill to play Pittsburgh and its suddenly explosive offense next week, followed by another home date against long-time nemesis Georgia Tech before getting to the 1st of its 2 open dates.

“By that time its season on the brink could be in full meltdown mode. And Brown will be doing more than just pondering his coaching future.”

Pittsburgh’s scored 73 points against Youngstown State in their last outing. Big numbers, regardless of the opponent. The Panthers will be fresh off a bye-week heading to Chapel Hill while the Tar Heels come off two straight heartbreaking losses.

ESPN analysts Rece Davis and Pete Thamel already think the end is near for Brown. And that was after the 70-50 loss to James Madison.

But what more does blowing a 20-point lead to their arch-rival, the Duke Blue Devils?

Arguably, it could be said that this is one of the lowest points in UNC football history.

All signs point towards Brown’s capability of leading the football program, even though he has trouble answering the question . A 73-year-old in college football has its limitations and it seems to be showing.

What can Mack Brown do to keep UNC afloat?

The Tar Heels have Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, and then their bye-week before heading on the road to take on Virginia on October 26. Win these next two games and the ship can stay afloat.

Could it bring back the faith of the fanbase? Maybe. Maybe not.

It’s a tough task but Brown’s responsibility is only part of it — the team needs to be prepared from the first minute up until the last. North Carolina let go of the gas pedal against Duke — that can’t happen.

Let’s see how UNC responds to two weeks of major disappointment.
