Kip spoke to the media after the game about Michael Hawkin’s performance and what it was like to score the game winning touchdown.

You being a defensive player, it’s probably not often that you get to score a game winning touchdown. What kind of emotions are going through you?

Kip: I was just trying to get my breath back and get ready to finish the game because I knew that we still had to go back out there and finish. It hasn’t really settled in that I scored the game winning touchdown. I think once I check my phone later, it will settle in. (laughs)

The offense scored before that pick six to make that lead even smaller. How big was that drive just to give you some momentum?

Kip: Oh, it was huge. Mike Hawkins leads them down there and you can’t ask anything better for a true freshman. I mean, that kid is solid and he’s gutsy. I love that about him.

When Hawkins scored on that two-point conversion, what did that do for the defense to go back there and play?

Kip: I was so stoked. I love Mike, just his energy and how he plays. He’s going to give you everything he’s got so I told myself we’ve got to give him everything we’ve got.
