Sacramento, CA — Above-normal temperatures will persist across Northern California this week, with a significant heat wave expected to peak on Tuesday and Wednesday. The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts widespread triple-digit highs in the Sacramento Valley and Delta regions, bringing a heightened risk of heat-related illnesses and fire hazards.

While Sunday will see slightly cooler temperatures thanks to a light onshore flow and Delta breezes, conditions will quickly intensify. By Monday, temperatures will surge, with many areas experiencing a Moderate HeatRisk. Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be the hottest days, with temperatures potentially breaking records in Sacramento, Stockton, and Redding. Forecasts indicate a 30% to 80% chance of temperatures reaching 100°F or higher.

In addition to the heat, gusty northerly winds are forecast to develop Sunday night into Tuesday, particularly along the I-5 corridor. These winds, coupled with low humidity levels and poor overnight moisture recovery, will lead to elevated fire weather conditions, especially on Monday. Fire officials are urging residents to stay alert and take precautions to reduce fire risks.

Though temperatures will begin to cool later in the week, they will remain above normal. Residents should prepare for hot and dry conditions and avoid outdoor activities during peak heat.

I live in Redding. We will barely notice the change.
