The Pittsburgh Steelers had no one to blame but themselves following Sunday's 27-24 loss against the Indianapolis Colts.

Offensive blunders and a defense that let up far to many chunk plays, the team has some work to do ahead of next week's Sunday Night Football contest against the Dallas Cowboys.

That being said, there was one controversial call that many believe should never have occurred as it pertained to a hit from Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Well, he let the NFL know his thoughts on the play:

Steelers not happy with Flag on Fitzpatrick

"I mean, I thought we were playing football," Fitzpatrick said after the game. "I don't know what we're playing at this point. Very different game than what I grew up playing and what I grew up loving. Can't hit anybody hard, can't be violent. I don't know what to say...

"...The ref said he was defenseless and I hit him in the head. I didn’t even hit him in the head.”

Fitzpatrick wasn't the only one upset with the call, as fellow safety DeShon Elliott said the following of the ruling: "That was Bull****."

A clear initiative to safeguard defenseless receivers, the call in theory is correct, but in practice, it just doesn't work.

You're asking a player traveling over 20 mph, to completely stop and avoid a WR who for all he knows, is attempting to make a catch, hence his attempt to jar the bar loose if it's not interceptable.

Some might suggest that it was a makeup call following what occurred earlier in the game when Colts defender Isiah Land was called for a roughing the passer penalty on Justin Fields after spearing him into the turf, but whether you agree with the rule or not, its clear that defenders are no longer allowed to put their bodyweight into QBs.

With Fitzpatrick, you see a player clearly pulling up, lowering his strikezone and doing everything he can to avoid a big collision or helmet-to-helmet call.

And still, he was penalized, and likely to be fined when examining both the hit and his postgame comments.

Someone has some explaining to do.
