Sources report that in this latest AP Poll, Alabama received 40 first-place votes to Texas' 19. The Crimson Tide rode a wild ride Saturday against the Georgia Bulldogs. The UGA team had been looking to make their mark on the 2024 season. Unfortunately for them, Alabama's performance reigned supreme. Alabama hung on for a 41-34 victory during a back-and-forth final quarter.

The Texas Longhorns had originally been crowned No. 1 over Georgia in mid-September. Alabama moved up from No. 4 to take the top spot from Texas. These rankings will hold through the off week, but the SEC Showdowns have only just begun.

Final Thoughts

With Mississippi State down, Texas has drawn first blood in the SEC. The Texas Longhorns expect Quinn Ewers for the upcoming OU game after the off week. Their backup quarterback will also be ready to go after a strong SEC debut.

"Three snap penalties, holdings, lot of that is on me. I need to be a leader in the room, in the offense. We'll get that taken care of in the bye week and get ready for OU."
