GHENT, WV (WVNS) – Hurricane Helene has knocked a lot of power throughout the region.

Appalachian Power does not have any specific information on individual counties, yet, but they have 2,200 cases of power outages across Tennessee, West Virginia, and Virginia. These cases include groups of people, as well as individuals.

Best tools and supplies to have on hand for a power outage

AEP Spokesperson George Porter told 59News that they have crews on-site throughout the different AEP territories and are assessing the damage.

“We have to have a strategic plan of how we can get the most customers restored as quickly as possible. So right now, we are asking for patience, understanding [that] there is still flooding in tons of areas. We are trying to be safe and working with our partner organizations,” said Porter.

They are working with different organizations for tree removals and such to make power restoration as safe as possible. Porter said they have restored around the power of 40,000 people following the storm on September 27.

If you would like to report an outage, Porter is asking folks to report to their website or their mobile app.
