'It will be a major one': Ex-prosecutor previews upcoming decision in Trump criminal case

The Supreme Court is about to make a major decision that would affect Donald Trump's co-defendants in a criminal case.

Former federal prosecutor Joyce Vance on Sunday previewed upcoming developments in Donald Trump's criminal cases, including the one he faces in Georgia for alleged election subversion.

According to Vance, former Trump admin White House official Mark Meadows is on track to get more information on a major request in the case, where he is a co-defendant.

"Trump’s former chief of staff and co-defendant in the Fulton County case Mark Meadows is still trying to convince the Supreme Court to give him a hand," Vance said. "Meadows wants the Court to rule that his prosecution should be removed to federal court because he was an official officer."

Vance further noted that there has been a short extension due to a hurricane. But if Meadows gets what he wants, it will be a big deal, she said over the weekend.

"He filed his petition for certiorari, the formal request for the Court to take his case, last July," the ex-prosecutor wrote. "The state of Georgia’s brief was due on Monday, but after a request for a short extension due to the damage Hurricane Helene did in the state, the Court is permitting them to file on Thursday."

She continued, saying, "If the Supreme Court agrees to take this case, it will be a major one, offering the possibility, if the Court is so inclined, that it might extend coattails from last term’s grant of broad presidential immunity to Donald Trump to his coconspirators."

This would mean that the nation's High Court could potentially award Meadows the same immunity it previously handed to the former president, making prosecution more difficult and, in some cases, practically impossible.
