CHP: Simi man dies in motorcycle crash near Santa Paula

A 62-year-old motorcyclist died Sunday in a crash on South Mountain Road east of Santa Paula, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The identity of the Simi Valley resident had not been released by Sunday evening pending notification of next of kin.

The man was riding a 2009 Suzuki motorcycle west on South Mountain Road east of Balcom Canyon Road when he crossed over double yellow lines and struck the front of a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling east on South Mountain Road, the CHP said.

Officers said the man sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash reported shortly before 10 a.m. The 33-year-old Ventura woman driving the Jeep was uninjured and remained on scene, the CHP said.

A portion of South Mountain Road running east of Balcom Canyon Road was shut down for close to three hours afterward.

Neither alcohol or drugs is suspected to be a factor in the crash.
