Somehow, nearly a quarter of the 2024 NFL regular season has passed, and you don't need to be a professional bettor to understand how fascinating the past month of action has been.

This column will briefly discuss the top betting storylines through four weeks, then look ahead to Week 5 and unveil the moneyline, spread, and over/under odds for every game on the schedule.

NFL betting trend through four weeks: Under-domination

NFL underdogs of +5.5 or more points are now 17-4-1 ATS this season. The first five undies of +7.0 or greater went 5-0 straight up! Parity has reached astounding new levels, seemingly turning "any given Sunday" into more like "every single Sunday."

Of course, when surprise upsets stack up like this, bigger-picture storylines start to take hold. Vikings' journeyman QB Sam Darnold, for instance, is now a legit MVP candidate at +1000, the fourth-shortest on the BetMGM futures board.

The Vikings and Jets now sit in the top 10 in Super Bowl odds, and the Falcons, Seahawks and Steelers lay within the top 15. Hell, even the Commanders are good! Stud Washington rookie Jayden Daniels has an 82% completion rate and more total scoring drives (23) than incompletions (19).

Let's dive into what should be a wild Week 5, and peek not just at the schedule ahead but the BetMGM lines, spreads, and over/unders for the full slate. That way, we can identify early value, pinpoint shifts in odds, and monitor wagering and pricing trends throughout the week.

NFL Week 5: Odds, betting storylines to watch

This week features plenty of close matches, including the Thursday Night Football opener between the division-rival Bucs and Falcons (ATL -2.5). The Jets and Vikings kick off the NFL's UK games at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday morning, then the Bills and Texans highlight the 1:00 p.m. slate (BUF -2.5, but moving).

We'll see Kyler Murray, Marvin Harrison Jr. and the high-flying Cardinals take on Brock Purdy and the NFC defending champion 49ers in the 4:00 window (SF -7.5). Then, on Sunday Night Football, we'll be in for a treat with the high-flying Cowboys offense vs. the hard-hitting Steelers D in Pittsburgh (PIT -2.5).

Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and the reigning champion Chiefs close out the week against a Saints team that's stronger than its 2-2 record suggests. Kansas City's opening at -5.5 seems steep, and 43 on the over/under seems low — but the week is young.

Be sure to check back often throughout the week as the action shifts and the lines change. And don't miss our best bets and top props, dropping Monday and updated daily until the weekend's games!
