Who Gets Fired First: Coach Brian Daboll or Eagles' Nick Sirianni?

SEPT 30 HOT X 3 Is it "time to look at which coaches are on the hot seat,'' as our guys at TheSpun write? To irate fans in New York and in Philly, maybe so. So ... here's their hot-seat hot list ... the top three guys in trouble ...

3. Brian Daboll, as they write of the Giants coach, "Not every single issue can be Daniel Jones' fault, especially when the head coach is constantly playing for field goals.''

2. Doug Pederson, as they write, "The Jaguars ... sit at 0-4 with no sign of life.''

1. Nick Sirianni, as they write, "Either he figures it out this season or he hits the unemployment line'' for the Eagles.

So ... Daboll is not in first place. Well, Giants fans, there is that.

SEPT 28 HOT SEAT Two "hot seat'' coaches entered. One man left.

The New York Giants ' 20-15 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night could've gone either way. If the Cowboys lose this thing? Dallas is 1-3 and coach Mike McCarthy is teetering toward the exit.

But the Giants lost for 12th consecutive time to Dak Prescott and company. And so McCarthy's butt cools for a week. But ...

"Toast," said Chris Canty, himself a Giants ex. "Brian Daboll is toast."

The Giants are 1-3, and predictably seem to be going nowhere fast. So we don't disagree with Canty. But we do recognize the fine line that exists between winning and losing and hiring and firing.

SEPT 22 BURNS IN? There were late-week concerns about the availability of pass-rusher Brian Burns for today's meeting in Cleveland with the Browns as the Giants' prized free-agent signing popped up on the injury report late in the week with a groin issue. He was listed as questionable, but NFL Network now reports he "should be good to go'' for Week 3.

SEPT 21 INJURY UPDATE The Giants have added pass-rusher Brian Burns to their injury report and he is listed as questionable with a groin injury as it regards Sunday’s Week 3 game at Cleveland

That designation allows the possibility that he will be a go on Sunday. We will monitor.

SEPT 19 SACKS? The Cleveland Browns won last week at Jacksonville even as they were missing starting tackles Jedrick Wills and Jack Conklin. There was pressure put on quarterback Deshaun Watson, as the Browns allowed 18 pressures.

What does this mean for Week 3 vs. the Giants? Not enough ... as the Browns hope to have both of their standout tackles back against the Giants this week.

On Wednesday's injury report, Wills was a limited participant in practice, while Conklin practiced fully.

Watson has struggled for the 1-1 Browns; there is vulnerability there. And the 0-2 Giants, who have had similar offensive struggles to start the year, have faith in their pass-rush abilities. That may be the centerpiece issue this week to determine a winner.

SEPT 17 – CAROLINA CHAOS – The New York Giants found out their Week 10 game against the Carolina Panthers would come against a lighter opponent when star defensive tackle Derrick Brown suffered a season-ending meniscus injury.

On Monday, the Panthers changed course again, this time at quarterback.

The team announced it will bench starting quarterback and 2023 No. 1 pick Bryce Young in favor of veteran Andy Dalton.

Given how poor Young had played – 245 yards, no touchdowns, three interceptions through two games – it is likely that Dalton is an upgrade.

It isn’t immediately clear whether Dalton will be the starter in two months when the Giants and Panthers play in Germany. But the way things are going, the contest could have massive implications for the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

S EPT 13 – BROWN OUT – The New York Giants had a tough week, there’s no denying that.

But the Carolina Panthers might have had it worse.

After losing 47-10, the Panthers might feel worse about their quarterback and No. 1 pick Bryce Young than the Giants do about theirs.

Then on Monday, they got even worse news – defensive tackle Derrick Brown, the team’s best player, will miss the rest of the season with a meniscus.

New York will play Carolina in Germany for Week 10’s festivities. Without the two-way starpower Brown provides, the offense’s job will be made significantly easier, although the road to the top pick in the draft may have hit a bump in the road.
