Man, 29, fatally shot in head near Bronx Zoo

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police are investigating after a 29-year-old man was fatally shot in the head near the Bronx Zoo Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., officials responded to a 911 call of a man shot near East 182nd Street and Mapes Avenue in Belmont. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim with multiple gunshot wounds to his head, cops said.

The shooter fled on a bike southbound on Prospect Ave, the NYPD said.

Officials did not immediately release the victim's identity.

An investigation is ongoing.
