Eagles' Slay apologizes to fans after outburst and loss

Darius Slay said he's sorry. And, for Philadelphia Eagles fans, that may have to be good enough as they digest Sunday's defeat.

Slay was protecting his X account on Sunday night as he deleted a tweet touting his career after his Philadelphia Eagles lost 33-16 at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

His account could be seen here:

Slay could also be seen on Sunday waving an “incomplete” sign after an end zone drop by Kameron Johnson during a goal-line stand in the first half. Tampa Bay settled for a field goal. Problem was, that made the score 24-0 Bucs.

Coach Nick Sirianni took heat for the nature of the loss heading into the bye, saying “it starts with me, ” but Slay did himself no favors either. It’s a given that players can criticize the other team, their own team, the officials, the NFL, and of course the media. But they can’t criticize the fans, and that goes double in a sports-mad city like Philadelphia.

Needless to say, this wasn’t going over well with the fans.

Making three straight Pro Bowls didn’t seem like a defense to some.

Darius Slay tweets out a bunch of arrogant self-propaganda after a loss AND THEN MAKES HIS ACCOUNT PRIVATE when people get mad

What a great team captain. Get this man out of Philadelphia TOMORROW pic.twitter.com/e6uo1oAodO
